2024 AHCL Donation Awards
The AHCL donates thousands of dollars annually to non-profit organizations that provide worthwhile services in our community. The funds donated are raised by several sources:
- AHCLDA Annual Children Helping Children Dance Recital is the Dance students' opportunity to raise money for organizations that benefit children.
- Abingtonians Support All Protectors (ASAP) events acknowledge and support local first responders – fire, police and rescue organizations.
- AHCL fundraising events throughout the year raise money, as well as collections of food, clothing and other in-kind supplies.
In the 2023-2024 club and school year, a total of $16,068 was raised and donated to the 20 organizations listed below. We also collected $488 worth of cat food and other supplies for the Indraloka Animal Sanctuary and $947 worth of underwear for the Women’s Resource Center.
Abington Community Library Assn.
- For children and teen programs and SummerQuest incentives to reward and motivate them to participate.
Blue Star Mothers
- Sponsorship for annual 5k walk/run in Nov 2024. Proceeds from this fundraiser are used to provide holiday care packages to our military personel stateside and around the world. Each year over 100 such care packages were sent.
Borough of Clarks Summit, Fire Dept.
- Donation from ASAP First Responder thank you picnic.
Borough of Clarks Summit, Police Dept.
- Donation from ASAP First Responder thank you picnic.
Camp Create
- Summer camp art supplies for special needs children.
Chinchilla Hose Co. of South Abington Twp.
- Funds for training purposes. Hosted by Chinchilla Hose Co. with participation to include Dalton, Newton, Chinchilla, Clarks Summit and Scott Twp.
- Thank you for donating firehouse space for AHCL meetings and fund raising events.
Dive Rescue Specialists, Inc.
- Donation from ASAP First Responder thank you picnic.
Dolly Parton Imagination Library (United Way)
- Dolly Parton's Imagination Library provides a book per month to any child ages 0-5. The books are mailed directly to the child at no cost to them. To sponsor a child for the life of the program is 150.00 that's 60 books mailed to the child.
Equines for Freedom
- There are 7 horses now residing in Two Meadows for use in treating active and former military personnel, and first responders who are experiencing symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Vet care, feed and farrier services have increased. Also, a new barn is being built to include a safe space for quarantine for new horses and vet care.
Indraloka Animal Sanctuary
- Indraloka summer camps provide an opportunity for students to develop friendships with their peers and the rescued farm animals in Indralokas' care, spend time outdoors, enjoy healthy plant-based food, and create cherished memories. The donation helps to cover meal costs, staff costs and facilities use for approximately 7 students. Note: $488 in cat food and cash donations were collected at the May AHCL meeting.
Lackawanna Blind Association
- Donation to help cover the cost of printing coloring books for Prevention of Blindness Pre-Kindergarten Vision Screening program.
Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office
- Donation from ASAP First Responder thank you picnic.
Meals on Wheels of NEPA
- 100 warm meals to 20 recipients for one week.
Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Co.
- Donation from ASAP First Responder thank you picnic.
Providence Pregnancy Center
- Donation to help provide material assistance to mothers in need through Providence's Resource Center, including a Baby Boutique. Mothers in need receive items such as clothing, diapers, wipes, formula, equipment, and other baby essentials; all free of cost. The donation will provide at least 50 brand new baby outfits to mothers in need.
Scranton Police Department
- A collection from AHCL members on behalf of a wounded Scranton Police Officer.
Shirley Wagner Eagen Scholarship
- Support for art scholarship awards at the 8th Annual “Our Town” Art Show and Art Scholarship Award ceremony to be held in the early spring. This art show is for junior and senior high school art students from Abington Heights High School.
Super Summer Slam Camp
- Donation to be used to bring wildlife presentations to 110 youths ages 5-14. The camp is in Scott Twp and offered to families free for a week of quality programs.
Womens Resource Center
- WRC intends to allocate the funds towards our Safe Nights of Shelter Program, an integral component of their broader safe housing initiative. This program offers emergency housing to families facing crises as they escape from violent or potentially life-threatening abusive situations.
Griffin Pond Animal Shelter
- Donation to help cover food and supplies for sheltered animals.
